How is it lazy? We can't be endlessly specific. Literally everything in our lives is, in one way or another, a generalization.
The only problem is when a generalization doesn't fit into the context of the conversation. Like, when we use a generalization that nobody cares about, such as people who enjoy driving bikes, even though it's generally not safe.

Handicapped people, like very old people, are allowed extenuations. :-P
Do you dislike generalisations?

I talk to them, of course. I hate shouting. Shouting is annoying and stupid. A person shouting, unless in humor, is a person who is emotionally unhealthy. And stupid.
I had to choose, when I decided to read this poem (and a few others, with it.) If I read it as a narration, then it wouldn't be displayed as a poem. After all, poems are meant to be sung! :-D Like in pubs! So, I saw how it's supposed to rhyme, and went for some rhythm.

I always talk to my pets, and to animals at large, but I'd never think of hosting animals with a story.
I'm having a lot of fun doing narration and poetry readings for Librivox, and for my blog. :-) Although I need to work on my tone and accents, it appears I have a rather pleasent bass voice.
Here's the latest poem I did, about Death. :P

Nope, never had anyone read to me. :(
That's the thing. Unless you already have familiarity with storytelling, not to mention a foreign language (English is my secondary), then having a professional narrator can be really useful.
Reminds me of a pic I saw, where kids volunteered to read stories to abandoned animals. :D

Yeah, a bad narrator, although rare for professional recordings, will ruin the story.
Most narrators are like storytellers. They make the story come to life in a way that I could not have done, by my own means. :=D Of course, imagination is rather subjective, but narrators are sensitive to key story elements.
I compare this to having a cool elder that tells you stories as a kid. :P Something I never had. It's a very human thing to do.

I enjoyed them all. On audiobook. The narrator is brilliant. I love that British accent! I enjoyed them endlessly.
